Description
Winston was a Shire Horse.
He sadly passed just over a year ago due to illnesses associated with old age.
He came to our centre as a sorts of 'Retirement Home'. (While I mainly work at the bird of prey side, we keep lots of different rescued animals as well!)
He had been worked as a brewery horse for a long time and then retired at a children's farm. While he was very well treated and extremely loved at this farm, he never really had access to... well, grass.
He spent the rest of his life with us either in his cosy warm stable or a lovely paddock; still being able to greet children every day which he always loved.
I made this as a Christmas present for his keeper. I may have never worked with him directly myself, nor did I really know him as an animal, but his keeper adored him. She called him her baby. Her heart horse.
And I, like many of you, know all too well how painful it is to lose a dear animal friend.
